UAB Hospital, a Level I trauma facility, boasts some of the top medical programs in America. The 1,157-bed hospital, among the 20 largest in the nation, includes UAB Heart and Vascular Center, a Level I trauma burn center, ambulatory clinic, rehabilitation center and psychiatric center, among other sites of care.
Established in 1945, UAB Hospital serves as the teaching hospital for the University of Alabama School of Medicine. UAB Health System, of which UAB Hospital is the flagship facility, has been designated as a Most Wired hospital by Hospitals & Health Networks multiple times. In 2015, 391 physicians at UAB Medicine were named to the Best Doctors in America list. Additionally, Baby Friendly USA designated UAB Hospital as a Baby-Friendly hospital, the only hospital in the Birmingham area to earn this recognition.
U.S. News & World Report ranked UAB Hospital No. 1 in Alabama for 2015-16, and ranked it nationally in six adult specialties. UAB Hospital has also achieved Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
